Barbara Weiss, London –Thursday March 30th
Our fifth event saw an intimate gathering of architects in a small London practice, here are some of the opinions and suggestions that were shared:
On the Future…
“I would like to see 1) More debates on cities and place-making context. 2) I would also wish for more mentoring/networking for small to medium size practices for women. It would be great to make the building more accessible, a real club – we also need much better, more relevant lectures and exhibitions” Barbara Weiss, Barbara Weiss Architects
“It would be great to see RIBA reach out to the wider industry to discuss how we can best deliver quality architecture” Akay Zorlu, Akay Zorlu Architects
“Making the RIBA a place for ALL members would be a great step forward!” – Paul Middleton, London Development Corp
“Open the building up to many more events, community groups who are actively caring about the built environment”
“How about young practices and support for them outside of incubator. More networking and opportunities to meet clients should be created.”
“The importance of getting “BME” minorities into the profession and retaining them during architecture education and post-education” – Yemi Aladerun, Barbara Weiss Architects
“In public we need to say how important architects are because they are the guardians of quality. Architects lead on placemaking and citymaking.”
So what do you think? Is the RIBA doing enough to support learning across the whole of the UK? Is investment in training and technology what we need to better represent you, your practice or your profession?
